Biodeterioration

As with most other wood products Wood Panels are susceptible to attack from wood destroying fungi and termites. However moisture contents of over 18% must be maintained before fungal attack can occur.

Wood Panels would need to be continually wet or subject to exposure to relative humidity in excess of 90% at normal temperature for long periods before they reach this moisture content. Observance of installation methods detailed in the various Australian Building Standards and regulations and the literature published by wood panel manufacturers will normally provide the necessary protection.

Further protection can be achieved if considered necessary by the addition of a termiticide or fungicide during manufacture. Such products are labelled H2 and F respectively and their availability should be discussed with the manufacturer.
