Wood Veneers
The use of decorative wood veneers provides an economical
way of exhibiting the natural beauty of wood. Applications
for genuine wood finishes exist in the furniture, cabinet
making and shopfitting industries.
Standard and MR particleboard and medium density fibreboard are
ideal substrates because of their stability, smooth flat surfaces
and accurate thickness. Individual manufacturers should be consulted
as to veneer appearance, availability and cost. It should be noted
that any one timber species can exhibit a natural variation in
colour and grain. Where special requirements exist, a personal
inspection and selection of veneers should be made prior to specifying.
Apart from an increase in the bending strength and stiffness of
a panel in the direction of the grain, the application of veneers
does not affect any other properties of the substrate.
Purchasers of wood veneered panels should ensure that the supplier
can provide adequate quality assurance with regard to the manufacture,
the type and grade of substrate, and the veneer to substrate bond
strength and durability.
